SIMPSONVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A substitute teacher was killed and several people were hurt in a head-on collision in Greenville County.

Kent Dill with the Greenville County Coroner's office said 32-year-old Glenda Jackson of Gray Court was heading west on SC 418 near Berry Road in her 1994 Buick sedan when a 2001 Ford headed the opposite way crossed the center line and crashed into Jackson's car around 10 p.m.

At 10:08 p.m. Dill said Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. She died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen and lower body, Dill said.

Several passengers from both vehicles and the driver of the Ford were taken to the hospital with injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol and the Greenville County Coroner's Office.

Billy Strickland, Superintendent of Laurens County School District 55, said Jackson was a substitute teacher at Laurens High School and other schools in the district on as-needed basis.

"All of us at District 55 are saddened by the loss and our condolences are going out to her family," Strickland said.

Strickland said grief counseling will be available to any students who may need it.
