High fire danger in WNC on Sunday

Posted: Updated:

Officials at the National Weather Service said several counties in Western North Carolina will see an increased fire danger Sunday.

Burke, McDowell, Polk and Rutherford Counties were on the list issued by the NWS.

Meteorologists said that after noon Sunday the relative humidity would drop and winds could gust up to 25 mph, making it unsafe to burn outdoors.

The increased fire danger warning will be in effect until Sunday night in those areas.

NWS officials said to consult local burn permitting authorities before beginning any burning activity Sunday.
