NEW YORK (AP) -

Police say a South Carolina man sleeping on a subway train in New York City's Times Square has been arrested after a passenger noticed him holding a loaded handgun.

Police say Demarrius Jackson was arrested at about 7 a.m. Saturday on criminal possession of a weapon charges. He's also been charged with marijuana possession.

The 19-year-old Columbia, South Carolina man was in custody and unavailable for comment. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Police say the conductor of a southbound N train summoned police via radio after a woman passenger reported seeing an armed Jackson sprawled out on subway seats.

That's when police say three officers arrested a sound-asleep Jackson with his hand on the handle of a defaced 9mm gun tucked in his waistband.
