SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police said when officers tried to stop a man from skateboarding through Spring Fling on Sunday, he cursed at them then tried to flee from arrest.

Police on patrol for the annual festival stopped to talk to the man about 8 p.m. asking him to leave the area of South Church Street and Kennedy Street.

The man, identified as 28-year-old Kipper King, yelled back at officers, cursing at them and calling them various expletives, police said. The police report said Spring Fling vendors and other city workers were in the area at the time.

Officers tried to get King to talk to them, but he continued to yell profanities and tried to skate off, police said.

That prompted officer to try and arrest him, citing him with public disorderly conduct, but police said when they ordered King to get down on the ground, he took off running.

After about a block of running, officers were able to apprehend King and discovered a "strong smell of an alcoholic beverage" coming from him, according to the police report.

Police arrested King, also citing him with breaking arrest and public drunkenness.
