Police: Man cited in Falls Park 'root tree' carving

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police said a man has been cited after he carved letters in a landmark tree in Falls Park.

The police department released a picture of the man on their Facebook page who is apparently holding a knife near the "root tree," which is located on Furman College Way near the Governor's School.

Officers said carving into the tree is a violation of the city ordinance to damage or remove landscaping on public property.

He was cited with damaging vegetation.

The man's identity has not been released at this time.
