Stella is now almost 13 months old, and I'm starting the process of weaning. I've been nervous about the process, but I think we are both ready. She is drinking some whole milk already, and tolerating it fine, so I feel like we can probably move beyond nursing and the pumped bottles. I know many mothers choose to nurse and pump well beyond this point, but for me and Stella it seems like the right time to stop. To each her own!
So... I've read about the proper way to do it, and I'm curious what your experience was like? Did you wean by choice or perhaps your baby made that decision for you? Did you feel big hormonal swings during the weaning process? I think I'm already getting those and I've just started!
I know I'll be relieved to not have to plan my life around pumping and nursing, but I'll also miss it. It was a wonderful experience that I'd recommend to anyone. It was great bonding time with Stella and it helped me lose the 40 pounds I put on during pregnancy. Nobody told me how much your metabolism revved up while breast feeding! I'm hoping those pounds don't start creeping back when I no longer produce breast milk.
Stella is getting better at eating solid foods too... She is eating little pieces of turkey and chicken, avocado, quesadillas, some small veggies, and of course she LOVES the cheesy puffs by Gerber! I'd like to come up with some ideas for casseroles and such that I can make on weekends, then send bits of it with her to daycare. She definitely needs more variety in her diet. If you have any good meal ideas for a 13 month old, please share!

She is starting to walk pretty well if you hold her hands, so I expect her to be full-blown walking here in a few weeks! She is a little behind on that, but seems to be getting the hang of it now!
I'm still so overwhelmed by the kindness of our community. I go out to Walmart or Publix and inevitably someone will come say hello and tell me about how they loved seeing Stella grow in my belly and then through pictures. We don't have any family here in South Carolina, but my husband and I feel a lot of love for you guys! Thanks again.
