IVA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Highway Patrol responded to a crash that claimed one life Tuesday night in Anderson County.

According to troopers, the driver was going eastbound on Highway 184 and trying to merge onto Hampton Street just before 10:15 p.m.

Troopers said the Chevy four-door ran off the road, hit a sign and then a tree.

Troopers said the driver was trapped and died at the scene. That person was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Highway Patrol.

Coroner Don McCown identified the driver as 44-year-old Gary Leo Parham.

McCown said speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.
