SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Good Samaritans driving by an assault stopped to help a woman Monday, but the suspect drove off with the victim's child, according to authorities.

Spartanburg County deputies were called to Valley Falls Road at Interstate 585 where two passers-by reported seeing a man hitting a woman in a car.

The woman then got out of the car but the man chased after her, grabbing her and punching her in the head, according to deputies' report.

When the passers-by stopped to help, the man got back into the car and drove off with the woman's 4-year-old son was still in the car, deputies said.

The woman told deputies everything started when the man, identified as Travis Wilson, stopped by her home. He was her ex-boyfriend and asked if they could get back together, but she said no, according to the report.

He became upset and asked for a ride home, so the woman, Wilson and her 4-year-old son got into her car and Wilson began hitting her while she drove, deputies said.

As he continued to attack her, that's when she stopped alongside I-585, the report stated. Wilson left the scene with the boy in the woman's car and returned to her home, where deputies said they found him and the child. The child and car were returned to the victim.

Wilson was arrested and charged with kidnapping, assault and battery third-degree and use of vehicle without consent.
