ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson police said a man is in jail and his wife is recovering at the hospital after he shot her Wednesday morning.

Police said they received a call about a domestic-related shooting on a home along Osborne Avenue about 2 a.m.

When officers arrived, they said they found the woman on a neighbor's front porch trying to treat her gunshot wound. When officers asked what happened, she said her husband shot her and he was inside their home next door.

Police said they went to talk to him but he shut the front door, so they set up a perimeter around the house. He came back outside then but refused to follow officers commands to get down on the ground, police said.

Officers said they had to forcibly take him down and as they were trying to handcuff him, he tensed up and would not follow their commands. According to the police report, an officer dry stunned him with a Taser, and he was cuffed.

The man, identified as 34-year-old Rashard Smith, was taken to the city jail where police said he would be charged with attempted murder.

His wife was taken to AnMed Health with non-life-threatening injuries.
