SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg police are warning drivers of a traffic hazard after a collapsed storm drained disturbed a downtown roadway.

Police first reported the traffic hazard as a sinkhole, but later said a storm drain collapsed causing the hole to open along South Spring Street at Carlisle Street.

Police closed South Spring Street from Carlisle Street to Brookwood Terrace and placed a detour sign at Beta Club Way.

They said the road will be closed through Thursday.

Parents picking up students from the nearby schools were asked to enter from South Church Street and West Hampton Avenue.

Police suggested taking South Church Street and West Hampton Avenue for entry onto Spring Street.
