WAYNESVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A 16-year-old Tuscola High student has been arrested and charged after being accused of threatening the lives of other students, according to the Haywood County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Joseph Jacobs, of Maggie Valley, was arrested shortly after 10 a.m. after the sheriff's office received information that he planned to shoot several students.

Jacobs has been charged with making a false report of mass violence on educational property, according to the sheriff's office.

They said it is a class H felony.

The sheriff's office said he is also charged with four misdemeanor counts of communicating threats.

Jacobs was jailed in lieu of $10,000 secured bond, the sheriff's office said in a statement.
