SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The solicitor's office is determining whether charges will be filed against two teenagers Spartanburg police said were driving a car with a rifle pointed out the window.

Officers said they spotted a red Ford Mustang stop in the middle of Oakview Drive with what appeared to be a high-powered assault rifle hanging out of the passenger side window on Wednesday night.

The car then drove off and officers began following the sound of the car's muffler, which had a distinct sound, according to reports.

Officers were able to catch up with the car and execute a traffic stop on John B. White Senior Boulevard.

Two 19-year-old males were in the car, police said.

Police said they located a Mossberg .22 caliber tactical rifle, loaded with 17 rounds in the magazine, and a box of ammunition in the vehicle.

Police seized the gun and set the two men free, and said the solicitor's office will determine if charges will be filed.
