GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The Greenville Zoo has a busy summer ahead. Autumn, their female giraffe is expected to give birth to her second calf and Brew in the Zoo is right around the corner. But on the forefront of their events calendar is a special weekend dedicated to moms.
On Saturday May 10, the zoo is holding a special event series called M.O.M. Missing Orangutan Mothers. The event goes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and pays tribute to orangutan mothers.
Then on Mother's Day, Sunday, all mothers get free admission with the purchase of a child's ticket.
Zoo officials say this spring and summer is the perfect time to spend some time at their exhibits. Autumn, the Zoo's female giraffe, is expected to give birth sometime this July. This will be Autumn's second calf. Her first, Kiko, was born in October 2012 and will soon be moved to a zoo in central Florida.
The zoo is also gearing up for one of their premiere fundraising events, Brew in the Zoo, happening May 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Event organizers say this year's event will be bigger with more craft beer vendors, live music by Benton Blount and food from Texas Roadhouse, Couture Cakes and Skin Daddy's BBQ. Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 at the door and $15 for designated driver tickets. The event is 21 and older.
