GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
The wife of a trooper who set the couple's home on fire in 2012 - which she first blamed on three masked men - was sentenced on Thursday.
Mark Powell of the Attorney General's Office said Paula Rose was found guilty of arson, filing a false police report and two counts of insurance fraud.
On July 27, 2012, when Greenville County deputies were called to the home of Rose she said three masked men were seen inside her garage breaking into a gun safe.
Rose allegedly ran to hide from the men when they saw her inside, then told the 911 dispatcher she heard noises outside and saw that her house was on fire, deputies said.
She told deputies she did not see where the men ran away to, but she was able to make it out safely without injury.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and deputies swarmed the neighborhood to search the for the alleged masked men.
The day of the fire and reported break-in, FOX Carolina spoke with Rose's husband, Highway Patrol Trooper Homer Rose, who said his wife and three dogs were OK, though one of the dogs had trouble breathing.
Following the arson investigation, deputies said the burn patterns and use of ignitable liquids in the fire debris indicated arson.
The following week, Rose was arrested and charged.
According to the arrest warrants, Rose used an accelerant to start the fire and gave conflicting statements during the investigation.
Rose was sentenced to 10 years, suspended to five years house arrest and five years probation.
