GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Wisconsin pastor was announced as the new president of Bob Jones University on Thursday.

Steve Pettit was named the fifth president by Chairman of the Board Larry Jackson at a ceremony at the fundamentalist Christian school in Greenville.

Jackson said the board received 395 recommendations for the position based on student input after Stephen Jones announced his resignation in 2013 for health reasons.

Pettit is the president of the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Association and a graduate of the Citadel.

He formerly served as camp director and staff evangelist for Northland Camp and Conference Center in Dunbar, Wisconsin, according to the school.

His presidency will go into effect on May 10.
