GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Firefighters battled a fire at the Dairy Queen on West Blue Ridge Drive in Greenville late Friday morning and into the afternoon.

A witness told our crew at the scene that he heard a loud blast, which sounded like an explosion, then saw smoke coming from the roof of the restaurant.

The witness said he could see heavy flames coming from the building when firefighters arrived, and as soon as firefighters would knock the flames down, they would flare up again.

The southbound lanes of West Blue Ridge Drive were shut down as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

There has been no word yet on what sparked the fire or the extent of the damage.
