Coroner IDs man killed in early morning crash

PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Coroner's office has identified the pedestrian who died following an early morning crash in Piedmont.

Deputy Coroner Jeff Fowler said George Curtis Washington, 51, of Patterson Street, Piedmont, was killed after being hit by an SUV.

Washington was lying in the middle of Bessie Road near Piedmont Highway when a passing Jeep Wrangler ran over him, according to troopers with the SC Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:14 a.m. Sunday.

Troopers said Washington died at the scene.

The driver of the Wrangler and a passenger were not hurt in the crash.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office said an autopsy will be conducted on Monday to determine the cause and manner of death.
