SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A group of college students are honoring veterans and those who sacrificed their lives by marching and biking through South Carolina as part of a weeks-long trek that will end in Dallas, TX, on Memorial Day.

Organizers said the annual national relay, which began at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, on April 29, is called Carry the Load: restore the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Each day four men take turns walking 6 miles during the daylight hours, and two men bike through the night. The cycle of walking and biking will continue until the men reach Dallas, organizers said.

Early Sunday morning, the group entered Spartanburg County waving a flag. Every two hours, the tour will stop at specific locations so walkers can hand off the flag to the men taking the next leg of the journey.

They will make stops in several locations in Spartanburg, Greenville and Anderson counties Sunday before crossing into Georgia early Monday morning.
