GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy visited FOX Carolina's studio Sunday to be appear on FOX News Sunday via satellite.

Chris Wallace questioned the congressman about his recent appoint as chairman of the committee assigned to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate building in Benghazi, Libya.

Gowdy and the committee have come under scrutiny from across the aisle and he argued during the televised interview that the committee's sole purpose was to collect facts and that "facts are neither Republicans nor Democrats."

Gowdy said he will work to ensure that the hearings are fair and not approached as a political angle.

"Regardless of your political persuasion or if you care about politics, four of your fellow Americans were murdered because we asked them to go to another country to represent and support us," Gowdy said in an interview with FOX Carolina after his cable news appearance. "So this is very important for us as a country to know as much as we can about the lives of those four people."

Many pundits have accused Gowdy and others pursuing the Benghazi investigation of inflating a situation that Americans don't care that much about, but Gowdy said that his constituents in the Upstate constantly ask him about Benghazi.

"People ask about Benghazi more than any other issue today, and that's been the case for some time," Gowdy said.
