SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police said a domestic dispute escalated and ended up at a Spartanburg school on Monday where the suspect told his girlfriend to say her last goodbye to their kids.

Spartanburg police said a 911 call was made at 7:30 a.m. about a man with a gun at Cleveland Leadership Academy on Franklin Street.

As officers arrived, they said they found a school official talking with the suspect who had been calmed down following the dispute.

According to police, the fight started at a couple's home and continued as they drove their kids to school. Police said the suspect forced his girlfriend into his car and told her to say her last goodbye to their kids as they dropped them off.

But the woman ran inside the school for help and officials met the suspect at the door, calming him down, police said. They said he never showed a weapon during the incident, but a handgun was found in his car in the parking lot.

Police said no one was injured or in danger during the incident.

Police have not yet said what charges the suspect, identified as 27-year-old Alajuan Rimmer, may face but he was taken into custody at the scene. They said the domestic dispute started at the couple's Huxley Street home in the county, so they are working with the sheriff's office on the case.

Online jail records show Rimmer has been charged with criminal domestic violence.
