CHARLOTTE, N.C. and NOGALES, Ariz., May 13, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Conterra Broadband Services, a national provider of managed fiber-based Ethernet solutions, has completed the deployment of a 100% fiber optical network to provide Internet Access and data, video and Voice over IP (VoIP) transport requirements for the Nogales School District #1. Consisting of six elementary, two middle, two high school educational facilities and one administrative facility, Nogales School District #1 is located in the Tucson-Nogales combined statistical area in Southern Arizona and serves approximately 6,200 students.

Conterra's multi-year contract to provide high-speed Internet Access and high-quality broadband services is partially funded through the federal Universal Service E-Rate program. The managed wide area network solution is a point-to-point fiber network providing speeds of 1 Gigabit per second to each Nogales school facility and is scalable to 100 Gigabits per second with no supplementary construction.

Conterra's managed fiber broadband networks support the convergence of integrated data, video and voice services on a single network, allowing the consolidation of multiple service providers to a single source enhancing performance accountability. Conterra monitors, maintains and supports its networks on a 24x7x365 basis and guarantees network performance and reliability. Conterra's gigabit network will be used to support the Nogales School District's Internet Access and videoconferencing which provides student testing, credit courses, advanced placement programs and certifications for district staff members along with professional development support.

"The goal of our department is to make technology an effective tool in the district so our students will be prepared to use technology as a tool in everyday life," according to Alejandro Lopez the district's Information Technology Director. Lopez added that "With Conterra's carrier class fiber optical broadband network the significant improvement in our distance learning applications, video quality, speed, and increased bandwidth in our schools and administrative locations will allow our students and teachers to participate in new educational opportunities. The added bandwidth capacity available will prepare our district for future innovations in technology."

"Conterra is excited to bring high-quality fiber-based broadband connectivity to the Nogales Unified School District," remarked Van Snowdon, Conterra's Executive Vice President.  "This will continue Conterra's plan of bringing high-speed broadband to underserved areas of the Southwest."
