CLYDE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Central Haywood High School in Clyde, NC was evacuated after a gas line break on Tuesday.

Around noon, the gas line was damaged in conjunction with a waterline repair, Haywood County school officials said in a release on their website.

Officials said students and staff were evacuated to a gymnasium across the Pigeon River.

Multiple agencies including the fire department and gas company responded to the school, officials said.

A voice message was sent to parents notifying them of the situation.

After the gas line was repaired by the Town of Clyde, the school was cleared of fumes and deemed safe at 2 p.m., officials said.

School officials said students were able to be picked up at the old Clyde Gymnasium or they could take their normal bus home.

School is scheduled to return to normal on Wednesday.
