CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

School district officials said two Clinton-area schools were locked down Wednesday morning because of a nearby home invasion.

A spokesperson for Laurens County School District 56 said Clinton High School and Eastside Elementary School were notified by police about the nearby incident.

Clinton police said the home invasion happened at a home on Florida Street Extension and two people were later taken into custody.

The victim's friend told FOX Carolina the attackers came up the home's back stairs and broke through the sliding glass door, shattering it.

"She was awake and she did get a lick on one of them with a baseball bat," said Angela Foster, the victim's friend. "They busted her lip, she got the first blow to the face. Then once they got her down, they started kicking and stomping her. They did get a foot print impression off her foot."

The schools were locked down out of precaution and the lockdowns were later lifted, according to the district.

FOX Carolina is working to get more information from Clinton Public Safety on the home invasion and what charges the suspects may face.
