GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Greenville father has been charged after deputies said the child didn't show up to school for a week because he was bruised from being spanked.
Deputy Drew Pinciaro said on May 1, the sheriff's office received a report of possible child abuse from the child's school.
Pinciaro said the school said the child had not been in school for a week. He said they learned through the boy's siblings that he was absent because of a bruise he had from a spanking from his father.
According to Pinciaro, investigators with the Crimes Against Children Unit investigated and found that 27-year-old Joshua Koon spanked his son to the point of bruising on his lower to mid parts of his body.
Koon was charged with cruelty to children. He was arrested on May 13.
He was released from the detention center on $2,130 bond.
