GREENVILLE, TX (KLTV) -  A Greenville man is being held in the Hunt County Jail after assaulting a police officer.

Melbourne Francis Kym III, 26, was booked into the county jail Monday on two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant that amount to $200,000 each. He was also booked in on one count of resisting arrest and one count of assault causing bodily injury.

The Greenville Police Department says around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, they received a domestic violence call from the 2300 block of Bonnie View in Greenville. The caller reported they had been assaulted by their roommate who is mentally unstable.

Two officers arrived on scene to investigate the domestic violence call and say Kym refused to comply with them. Officers say when they tried to take him into custody he threw a knife. The knife struck one of the officers in the face.

Officers were able to gain control of the suspect and detain him.

The officer that was struck in the face was treated for his wounds and later released from a local hospital. The police department says he will not return back to work until his stitches are removed.

Kym remains in the Hunt County jail on $409,500 bond.
