SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Investigators following up on a moped theft said a suspect they were looking for led them on a brief chase about lunchtime Thursday.

Spartanburg County deputies said they went to look for the man at the Sam's Club but he took off running.

The man then jumped into a Kia, leading officers on a chase that began about 11:55 a.m. and ended 16 minutes later, deputies said. At one point during the chase, deputies said the suspect tried to ram into an officer's patrol car, but he was not successful.

The chase ended with the man taken into custody at the intersection of Daniel Morgan Avenue and Pine Street, deputies said.

Deputies have not released any other details about the chase or what charges the man may face.
