GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Downtown Greenville's iconic walking bridge over Falls Park closed for repairs Monday.

City officials said the Liberty Bridge will be closed until 5 p.m. May 23, if weather permits.

During that time, officials said contractors will replace the delaminated coating on the bridge deck and apply an epoxy overlay to the entire deck to protect the concrete and prevent moisture from degrading the structure.

Officials said the specific repairs require specific weather conditions and temperatures, but due to the bridge's popularity, officials scheduled the closure for a week when there are no downtown events that would require the bridge to be open.

Officials said the bridge will reopen in time for Memorial Day weekend.
