GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Gas prices in Greenville have remained fairly steady over the last week, but experts say they may drop for Memorial Day.

The average retail price for a gallon of gas averaged at $3.41 this week in Greenville, down a cent from last week. The national average remained unchanged over the past week, according to the gas price website GasBuddy.com.

Experts said a supply issue has caused prices in Greenville and across the nation to remain constant for a few days as opposed to dropping as expected.

"The drop that we had observed in the national average weeks ago took a pause over the last week," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

"Oil prices have perked back up, and some supply tightness across areas of the country helped propel wholesale gasoline prices higher last week, leading retail prices to hold steady instead of continuing to decline. The temporary stability in the national average will ebb over the next week or two, and gas prices will head down again as we approach Memorial Day," DeHaan said.

Gas prices on Sunday were 22 cents per gallon higher than the same day a year ago and unchanged compared to a month ago.
