LOS ANGELES (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville native Caleb Johnson will find out Wednesday if he's going to be crowned the next "American Idol."

Johnson and Jena Irene, who is from the Detroit area, each sang three songs during part one of the American Idol finale on Tuesday.

The winner will be revealed at the end of the two-hour episode Wednesday night.

Johnson sang "Dream On" by Aerosmith, "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney and his single "As Long As You Love Me."

"I'm indifferent either way. I felt great up there singing it," Johnson said. "There was a lot of stuff going on, but you know I had a blast. Regardless what happens I am fine either way, you know. Me and Jena talked about it. We are both winners regardless because of all the experiences. Meeting each other, becoming great friends, and all this amazing stuff has been incredible."

Irene sang "Dog Days Are Over" by Florence + The Machine, "Can't Help Falling In Love" by Elvis Presley and her single "We Are One."

"Based on my performance I did all that I could; based on Caleb's he did awesome," said Irene. "I have no idea what is going to happen tomorrow and I am happy no matter what happens."

Host Ryan Seacrest billed the battle for first place as "The Wild Card vs. the Wild Child."

Johnson's mother, father and brother traveled to Los Angeles for the finale.  They told FOX Carolina's Jennifer Phillips outside the Nokia Theater that Caleb's voice is on the mend. The rocker is recovering from bronchitis.

"I think he's on the mend, I think.  He's not 100 percent, but he's a road warrior and I think he's going to be fine," said Caleb's father David Johnson.

"It's amazing to see my brother out there performing with such an amazing band.  It's crazy," said Houston Johnson.

Part two of the American Idol finale airs from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Wednesday night on FOX Carolina.
