WAYNESVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A body was found in the charred remains of a Waynesville home that burned to the ground Wednesday morning, according to Chief Joey Webb, Sr. with the Waynesville Fire Department.

Waynesville firefighters and others from several Haywood County departments battled the large house fire along Shining Rock Trail after the fire was reported just before 3 a.m.

Webb said firefighters were having a hard time getting to the home because it was located in a rural stretch of a mountain called the Eagle's Nest.

Webb said the body was found Wednesday afternoon and was sent to the state medical examiner for identification and cause of death analysis.

Webb said firefighters and investigators with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation,  bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were heading back at the scene on Thursday to try and determine the cause of the fire.
