FAIRVIEW, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Buncombe County deputies said they have found a missing 12-year-old girl who was last seen on her school bus on Tuesday.

Deputies said Anna Schmitt, of Chestnut Forest Road in Fairview, rode the bus to riding lessons on Tuesday and the driver dropped her off as usual.

When her mother went to pick her up later in the evening she learned that the girl had never showed up.

She was reported missing at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, and deputies said they were concerned for her well-being because she may have spent the night outside in the elements.

Deputes started a K-9 search along with a human search in the area. NC Highway Patrol helicopters also assisted.

At 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies said they located Anna asleep in a barn near the farm.

Deputies said she was unharmed.

According to Public Information Officer Natalie Bailey, the girl had made preparations and planned to intentionally conceal herself.

She has been reunited with her family.
