District: Chapman High lockdown lifted after nearby pursuit

INMAN, SC (FOX Carolina) -

School district officials said Chapman High School was locked down as a precaution Wednesday while deputies were in pursuit of someone nearby.

Cathy McMillan, with Spartanburg County School District One, said the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office notified them of the chase along Bishop Road, which runs next to the school.

Because of the pursuit, McMillan said the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. Once deputies' action was completed, the lockdown was lifted.

Lt. Tony Ivey with the sheriff's office, said a deputy on patrol saw someone running from a church on Bishop Road and believing there may have been an attempted break-in, he called for help to locate the person.

Deputies and K-9s responded to the area, but did not find the person, Ivey said. He said the school was notified of the events, which is standard policy.

McMillan said no students were in danger and everything with the lockdown functioned correctly.
