SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Greer man is accused of abusing an elderly man by locking him in his room and using his debit cards to deplete his bank account after getting out of jail, according to police reports.

Spartanburg police said they were contacted by the victim's relatives in April after they noticed the 70-year-old man's bank statements.

According to the man's family, 27-year-old John Davis moved in with the victim after his wife died in 2013, according to the police report. The report stated Davis was in jail at some point, and when he was released in February, he moved back in.

Police said Davis made several unauthorized purchases and withdrawals using the man's debit card.

One of the family members confronted Davis about it, and he told her he only bought items the victim requested, the report stated. According to the report, after the account was depleted, Davis moved out of the home.

Davis was arrested Wednesday and charged with financial transaction card fraud, financial transaction card theft, financial identity fraud, abuse of vulnerable adult and exploitation of a vulnerable adult.

According to arrest warrants, Davis also kept the man locked in his room and locked his refrigerator.
