HOPKINSVILLE, KY (WSMV) -

Two people were injured after a light aircraft crash landed Thursday afternoon along the Pennyrile Parkway in Christian County.

Officials say the pilot, 58-year-old Mike Creed, and his son, 20-year-old Benjamin Creed, both of Hopkinsville, were flying in a 1943 Piper airplane when they experienced trouble.

The Christian County Sheriff's Office says Mike Creed reported taking off from the Hopkinsville Airport shortly before the crash, losing altitude and attempting to make an emergency landing on the parkway about 1:50 p.m.

Mike Creed was taken by medical helicopter to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries, and Benjamin Creed was treated at the scene for his injuries and released.

Northbound lanes were closed until about 4:30 p.m. while crews removed the plane and took it to a hangar at the airport, where the FAA will continue its investigation of the crash.
