Greenville prepares for Scottish invasion starting Friday

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two events will be held to kick off the Gallabrae Highland Games in Greenville.

The Scottish invasion will begin at 6 p.m. when the Great Scot! Parade begins along Main Street in downtown Greenville.

Organizers said the parade will feature pipe bands, marching clans, Scottish chiefs, floats, Scottish woods faeries, the Scottish faery godmother, Braveheart, axe-throwers, longbow archers, Scottish military re-enactors and more.

A new addition to the games this year is the will be the Bagpiping Challenge for professional pipers.

Organizers said the event will bring the best bagpipe players in the country to compete for prizes at Greenville's Phoenix Inn, on Pleasantburg Drive.

The challenge starts at 7 p.m. and is free to attend.

On Saturday, teams will test their strength and agility during the Greenville Scottish Games on the campus of Furman University.

The games start at 8:30 a.m. and the event features a full day of activities, including a car show and an evening concert.
