SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Police in Spartanburg are investigation a possible embezzlement at the PetSmart on East Blackstock Road, according to incident reports.

Officers said they were called to the store Friday morning after the shift manager noticed the safe was unlocked and that all the cash had been removed from inside.

Officers said the manager informed them that he had called the night shift manager's home to get more information, but received some strange news from the night shift manager's wife.

The wife said, according to incident reports, that she had not seen her husband at all Thursday night. On Friday, the wife said she woke up to discover a note from her husband and a sum of money in her purse that did not belong to her.

According to reports, the note said "Sorry honey, I (expletive) up. I love you."

Officers said they later received a call from Cherokee County deputies, who informed them that the wife had filed a missing person's report for her husband and surrendered the money to deputies.

Police said the money was placed into evidence at Spartanburg City Hall.

There's no word if the husband has been located or if he will face charges.
