Below is a list of Memorial Day events scheduled in the Upstate and Western North Carolina.

Lake Lure, 9 a.m.: Memorial Day remembrance at the Veterans Flag Pole in the Arcade parking lot.

Anderson, 10 a.m.: Memorial Day ceremony at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery, 140 Inway Drive. Flags and wreaths will be placed on every graves.

Black Mountain, 10 a.m.: The Charles George VA Medical Center and the Buncombe County Veterans Council are co-hosting the Memorial Day program at the Western North Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The keynote speaker is Carrol "Spider" Trantham, a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, who received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star with" V" device for valor. The cemetery is located at 962 West Old U.S. Highway 70.

Westminster, 10 a.m.: Dedication of new Memorial to World War II veterans at the Westminster Veterans Park, located at the intersection of S.C. 183 and U.S. 123.

Greenville, 11 a.m. - midnight: Veterans and military service members eat free at Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks restaurants nationwide, including the Woodruff Road location, are offering one free entrée for Veterans and current military personnel, valued at $14.95 or less, with beverage purchase.

Greenville, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.: Veteran's Companion Care Day at Regency Salon & Spa. A special day of pampering for veterans' special loved ones. Will feature barbecue, bounce house, and presentations.427 Haywood Road, Suite C.

Walhalla, noon: 12 Noon: Memorial Day ceremony at Walhalla Civic Auditorium on College Avenue. Two students from area schools will read their award-winning essays on the topic of "What Memorial Day Means to Me." Rifle salute and taps will follow.

Simpsonville, 2 p.m.: U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) will speak at the Simpsonville Memorial Day ceremony at the "Veterans Corner" monument at the corner of Southeast Main and Richardson Streets.

Asheville, 2:30 p.m.: Memorial Day ceremony on the Roger McGuire Green stage of Pack Square Park will include musical performances by the Tennessee Air National Guard's concert "Band of the South". Commander Douglas A. Bradley, U. S. Navy, Commanding Officer of the USS ASHEVILLE SSN 758 is the keynote speaker.
