HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A man found in a Greenville County neighborhood suffering from burns was airlifted to Augusta Burn Center on Monday.

The man was found on U.S. 25 and Taylor Road near Honea Path.

Witnesses said the man was naked, incoherent and badly burned when they spotted him in the area.

"His whole face right here was burned," witness Sean Robertson told FOX Carolina. "You couldn't see his eyes. His pupils were just black."

"He wasn't violent, he wasn't upset, he was just kind of incoherent and not in pain. You know, he should've been in a lot of pain because he was burned over probably half of his body. Something very unusual to see," said witness Steve Canney.

Robertson's family took cell phone video of the encounter when paramedics and deputies tried to talk with the man.

"He tried to say that some people set him on fire, and burned his clothes. And whooped him. He said he met some people on the Internet or something like that," said Robertson.

The neighbors said the man was looking for water, but every time anyone tried to give him something to drink, he refused.

Deputies said the man did not have identification and wasn't talking to them.

They said it is still an active investigation.
