TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Two people connected to a deadly central Toledo shooting over the weekend appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Tyler Jones, 19, has been charged with one count of murder and three counts of felonious assault. Areanna Coley, 18, has been charged with obstruction of justice.

In the courtroom, the judge set bond for Jones at $1 million, plus $100,000 for each assault charge. Coley's bond was set at $25,000.

The pair are due back in court in June.

Four people were shot, one fatally Sunday afternoon in the 2100 block of Joffre Avenue. Police say Jones pulled a gun and fired several shots. Police believe the incident was gang related.

Hear reaction from neighbors on the shooting.

Jones has a long criminal history dating back to age 10. He has been considered an adult in the court system for just over a year and has been put through various juvenile rehabilitation programs. Still, his record is stacking up with multiple offenses.

"Our last shot here, the court's last shot, is the department of youth services. We try to do everything we can not to put those children in juvenile prison, and the fact that he went there twice, they ran out of options to leave him in the community. So it came down to a public safety," explained Lori Olander, prosecuting attorney.

Jones' mother does not deny her son's past.

"He has a past. He's a kid. He's a kid. He grew up in a different neighborhood and did what kids do, but he's not a killer," said Tameka Jones.

Jones says her son was not the shooter in this incident, because his friends were the victims.

"He told me, 'Mom, I just watched by friend die,'" she recalled.

According to Jones, those who were wounded told detectives Jones wasn't the triggerman, another person was.

Police say detectives are in the early stages of their investigation and would not disclose if they are looking into other possible suspects because it would jeopardize the investigation.
