Pop-up showers and storms will be part of daily life all through this week! The best chance for storms will come Thursday, as a cold front drops in from the north. This will mean a greater coverage of storms, and they could pack damaging wind and large hail. Wednesday and Friday will also be stormy days, but I'm expecting activity to be a bit more isolated. Here are my rain % thoughts at this point:
Wednesday: 20% Upstate, 30% Mountains
Thursday: 50% Upstate, 70% Mountains
Friday: 40% area-wide.
We should slowly dry out over the weekend, but Saturday will still bring a few isolated showers and storms as it looks now.
I was looking ahead on the GFS model, and saw something that caught my eye! Hurricane season begins on Sunday, and we COULD see our first storms of the season as early as the following week (see image attached to this post). GFS is picking up on a storms developing in the Gulf of Mexico, then heading north. This track could potentially bring heavy rains and severe weather to the Carolinas by June 6-7, but my confidence in this forecast is only about 20%! It will be a situation to monitor! GFS is notorious for doing crazy stuff beyond day 7, but sometimes it's fun to look just in case!
