"Open gym" hours suspended as deputies investigate shooting

GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies were investigating a shooting inside the Sterling Community Center on Minus Street on Tuesday evening.

Lt. Tim Ridgeway said it was reported that one person ran out of the building with a gunshot wound. Deputies followed a trail of blood and found the victim lying by the creek outside.

Ridgeway said the victim was taken to the hospital for surgery. His condition is unknown at this time.

According to Ridgeway, 60-70 people were inside the center at the time of the shooting. He said there is only one shooting victim at this time.

Ridgeway said the shooter has not been taken into custody at this time.

The Greenville County Recreation District said they have decided tosuspend "open gym" hours at the Sterling Center gym while the sheriff's officeinvestigates the shooting.

All other activities at the Sterling Center will continue,but "open gym" hours are on hold through next week.
