WEST END, OH (FOX19) -

The Cincinnati Fire Department welcomed 51 new fire recruits Tuesday after taking their sworn oath at Station 29 in the West End.

The 24-week course will consist of physical conditioning, fire training and classroom work.

It's the third fire recruit class whose salary is completely funded for the next two years from a grant provided by the Department of Homeland Security's – Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)'s Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants (SAFER) Program.

This recruit class will graduate in November.

Cincinnati is the home to the oldest professional and fully-paid fire department in the country.
