SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County Schools announced that Gov. Nikki Haley has signed a bill to forgive Monday, June 2 for students.

The day was initially added as a make-up day for missed days due to winter weather earlier in the school year. The last day of school will now be Friday, May 30.

The bill's sponsors cited concerns for expenses of running buses, inconvenience of daycare and disruption of summer vacation.

"We received word of this bill early on Tuesday morning and were waiting for the governor to sign it into law.  Our county school districts will have to reschedule some events planned for Monday in order to comply with the bill that was signed into law today," Superintendent Ron Garner was quoted in the press release.

The district said parents should check their school's website for undated school activities that may be rescheduled.
