CAMPOBELLO, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Landrum High School named Jason Farmer as the new head football coach on Wednesday.

Spartanburg County Schools announced on Wednesday that Farmer will take over the position after Russell Mahaffey resigned to become the defensive coordinator at Woodruff High School.

Farmer has been the head coach at Woodmont High School for the past two years and has also coached at Blue Ridge and Spartanburg high schools.

"We are delighted to have a man of the character and quality of Jason Farmer joining the staff at Landrum High School," Athletic Director Mike Gentry said in a press release. "Coach Farmer is one of the most respected coaches and men in the area. We are excited about the future with Coach Farmer's leadership."

Farmer said he plans to meet with the football players on Thursday morning.
