SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

One of three teens stopped to ask a man for directions then the others robbed him at gunpoint, pistol-whipping him, according to deputies.

Spartanburg County deputies said the victim was walking along Front Street in Spartanburg on Memorial Day about 8:30 p.m. when a yellow, box-shaped Chevy Caprice pulled up and a man got out of the car.

That man, later identified as 18-year-old Douglas Jones, asked the man for directions to Park Hills, according to the incident report.

While he gave him directions, deputies said another man walked up holding a gun and demanded the victim's money but he said he did not have any. Then the car pulled back up, a third suspect got out and took the gun, pistol-whipping the victim in the face, according to deputies.

According to the report, they told him to get on the ground, searched his pockets but did not find any cash, so they took his cell phone then got back in the car, picking up Jones as they left.

Deputies said the victim ran home and called 911 to report the robbery and had injuries to his face, though he refused treatment.

Based off of the car's and suspects' descriptions and a partial tag number, deputies said they were able to locate them and stop the vehicle. According to the report, they all admitted to being there during the robbery but gave varying accounts of their involvement.

Online jail records show Jones, along with 19-year-olds Chase Burt and Timothy Tatham were all arrested and charged with armed robbery.
