GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Two Greenville County Sheriff's Office vehicles were involved in a collision on Friday.

Lt. Ty Miller said deputies were investigating a suspect who had active warrants on Pointsett Highway and Locust Street when he attempted to flee on foot.

Miller said backup was called after the man "actively resisted arrest" and a physical altercation started.

When one of the backup deputies arrived, the vehicle collided with another county vehicle already at the scene, Miller said.

One of the vehicles was bumped into the deputy and the suspect fighting on the ground, Miller said.

She said the deputy was not injured and the suspect was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The suspect, Paul Read Jr., was taken into custody for charges from another department, Miller said.

He will be charged by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office with simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
