CALHOUN FALLS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Calhoun Falls man was sentenced to 16 years in prison on Friday after being convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.

On Aug. 26, 2010 Calhoun Falls police were called to Calhoun Falls Charter School after a student told a counselor that 53-year-old Keith Denver Tate had sexually abused her on numerous occasions between August 2009 and March 2010, Stumbo said.

Solicitor David Stumbo said Tate was found guilty of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor by an Abbeville County jury following a three day trial.

Judge Donald Hocker sentenced Tate to 16 years, out of a possible 20 years.

He will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.

He will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release.
