One lane of I-40 West will be closed this weekend after some rocks fell near the road on Thursday.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said on their website that the right lane will be closed for a half mile at mile marker 8, near the Cold Springs Creek Road exit in Haywood County.

They said the closure is precautionary after some rocks fell from the mountainside. The rocks didn't fall into the road.

NCDOT said the closure will be until at least Monday, June 2, at noon.

They plan to investigate the cause of the rockslide before deciding to reopen the lane.

They reminded drivers to use extra caution when driving in that area.
