DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND (WOIO) -

An investigation is underway after a union worker fell off the Anthony J. Celebrezze federal building.

Witnesses say the victim, 51-year old James Eiflander, was putting new glass around the perimeter when he fell seven stories to his death. Eiflander had just finished putting the last piece of glass up for the evening, when he unsnapped himself to get off the building.

After that something went wrong causing Eiflander to fall to his death.

Fellow workers tell 19 Action News Eiflander had a son who is an aspiring ironworker.

The accident reportedly happened around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, near the end of his shift.

EMS rushed Eiflander to Metro where he was pronounced dead.

Eiflander was a member of local 17 ironworkers.

The accident is under investigation.
