Clemson, South Carolina make early tourney exits

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) -

The college baseball season is over for the Palmetto State's powerhouse programs.

It's been more than 30 years since Clemson and South Carolina were dealt these kinds of early setbacks.

The Tigers went 0-2 in an NCAA regional for the first time since 1981. And the last time Gamecocks failed to advance in a regional that it hosted was 1976.

Their fans aren't used to this.

It's just the second time since the NCAA started best-of-three super regional series in 1999 that neither Clemson nor South Carolina are among the final 16 contending for the College World Series.

Clemson's Jack Leggette and South Carolina's Chad Holbrook both say the results are not acceptable and have vowed to make the changes necessary to ensure they're serious CWS contenders moving forward.
